Ka Lok (Gary) Chan is an articled student at Westside Family Law. Prior to relocating to Canada, Gary practiced as a solicitor in Hong Kong, where he gained more than 10 years of post-qualification experience in civil and commercial litigation, debt recovery and enforcement proceedings, and family-related matters. He acted for high-net-worth individuals, corporate clients, and government departments in a broad range of contentious disputes.

During his practice in Hong Kong, Gary developed strong advocacy and litigation skills through preparing legal correspondence, pleadings, affidavits, submissions, and evidentiary materials, as well as advising clients strategically at various stages of proceedings. He also gained valuable experience working on complex and high-stakes matters, including commercial disputes involving substantial assets, multi-party proceedings, and cross-border litigation.

Gary has completed the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) examinations and is currently completing his articling requirements in British Columbia. At Westside Family Law, he assists counsel with legal research, preparation of court materials, family law proceedings, chambers applications, and client management. In addition to family law matters, Gary also has the capacity to advise and represent clients in debts collection and other civil or commercial disputes.

Gary is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, and is well positioned to assist clients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds with clarity, sensitivity, and practical insight. His international legal background, litigation experience, and multilingual abilities enable him to provide effective and pragmatic support to both clients and counsel.
